Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Public Consultation: Precept and Public Confidence Survey 2024/2025

Precept and Public Confidence Consultation – have your say

Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Stephen Mold is responsible for setting the police and fire precepts – that is the amount residents contribute towards local police and fire services through their council tax.

Around 18% of the council tax you pay in Northamptonshire goes towards funding your local police and fire services, the rest goes to your local authorities.

Total funding for your police and fire services is made up of the precept and central government grants.

Now he needs to know how much you are prepared to pay towards your emergency services next year, so that your views can be taken into consideration in the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner’s proposals on the level of council tax precepts.

“Asking for more money at any time is never easy and I know the impact that rising prices have had on households across Northamptonshire over the last two years. But rising prices also have an impact on police and fire, and I must balance the need to invest in these vital services that keep the county safe, with my wish not to increase the burden on local taxpayers,” Stephen Mold said.

Over the last few years, both Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service have benefited from significant investments that have brought stability and strengthened the way both services look after the public.

Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service are on firm foundations but will face a challenge to sustain these improvements, next year and into the future.

Your views are vital in helping to ensure that your priorities for both services can be delivered. They have launched this survey to ask you your views on what you would be willing to pay for the services provided by policing and fire and rescue services in Northamptonshire. The survey also asks some further questions around your confidence in Northamptonshire Police.

The survey should take around 15 minutes to complete.

Nominations for Assets of Community Value

Great Addington Parish Council has recently nominated The Memorial Hall and The Addingtons’ Playing Field as Assets of Community Value.

What are Assets of Community Value?

In neighbourhoods across the country, there are buildings and amenities that are important to the communities that use them. This could include a village shop, a post office, a pub, a community centre, a recreation ground or a library.

The closure or sale of these places can create lasting damage to communities. Under the Localism Act, voluntary and community organisations can nominate an asset to be included on a list of  ‘Assets of Community Value’.

If the asset comes up for sale, parish councils or community groups with a local connection will then be given a fair chance to make a bid to buy it on the open market.

North Northants Council has now started a period of community consultation about the above nominations.

How to take part in the consultation

You can read about the nomination for The Memorial Hall here: community consultation Memorial Hall Great Addington and see a map showing the location of the hall here: Memorial Hall

You can read about the nomination for The Addingtons’ Playing Field here: community consultation Great Addington playing field and see a map of the nominated land here: The Addingtons’ Playing Field

Representations and comments are invited until Wednesday 13 December, and you can contact: Estates@northnorthants.gov.uk if you require any further information.

Age UK needs volunteers to make a difference to older people.

Their Community Responder Service aims to provide company, reassurance, and low-level support to an older vulnerable person in their own home when a delay is anticipated for Primary or Secondary care support.
