Dear Residents’ Panel member,
Northamptonshire County Council (NCC), and all our partners who are working together on the coronavirus pandemic, want to hear from members of our communities.
We want to gather feedback to understand your views on the spread of coronavirus in the county and to identify what might be helping or stopping people from following guidance.
We will ask you about getting tested, about social distancing (keeping 2 metres apart) and self-isolation (staying at home if you have symptoms or a positive test) so that we can identify ways of making all of these things easier for our residents.
Please note that your answers to this survey are anonymous and the results of all responses will be analysed by NCC public health and engagement teams with the overall findings being shared with our incident response team and Oversight and Engagement Board.
Have your say
Please give us your views by completing our online questionnaire.
The consultation closes at midnight on 5 October 2020.
Police Priorities
Northamptonshire Police is refreshing its Locally Identified Priorities (LIPs) and has asked Northants CALC to help disseminate the survey. Northamptonshire Police would like to get as many responses as possible to understand what the main issues are for the public. The survey runs until the 31 August 2020 and will help shape what the police focus on from September to November 2020. The very short survey is at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/NorthamptonshireLocallyIdentifiedPriorities.

Every year Northamptonshire Libraries deliver the Summer Reading Challenge, which challenges children to read 6 books during the summer holidays. It has been proven that children who don’t continue reading during the summer have a lower reading age when they return to school in September than that before the summer. You can find out more about the challenge on our webpage: www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/src or on our facebook page: www.facebook.com/NorthamptonshireSRC
Due to the exceptional circumstances surrounding Covid-19 we are unable to deliver this in the normal way and the challenge will be online this year. We are also unable to promote it I the normal way as we can’t deliver school assemblies or hold events in the library.
Residents across East Northamptonshire are being warned not to lose their voice on decisions that affect them by making sure their electoral registration details are correct.
The annual canvass ensures that East Northamptonshire Council (ENC) can keep the electoral register up to date, identifying any residents who are not registered to vote and encouraging them to register, so they can have their say in future elections, including those taking place in May 2021.
Having been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, elections for the new North Northamptonshire Council, Police, Crime and Fire Commissioner and local town/parish elections, will now take place in May 2021. The annual canvass is an important opportunity for residents to make sure they can use their democratic right to vote on these upcoming elections.
Cllr Steven North, Leader of East Northamptonshire Council said:
“It’s important that residents keep an eye out for messages from East Northamptonshire Council, so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for you and your household.
“We are required by law to complete the annual canvass, regardless of the wider situation, and ask that the public help us by providing the necessary information when it is needed. This will avoid the need for a canvasser to visit your home, which will be more difficult given the current circumstances.
“If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear in the messages we send and you may be unable to vote in any upcoming elections. If you want to register, the easiest way is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote”
Any residents who have any questions about the annual canvass can contact ENC’s Elections team by emailing elections@east-northamptonshire.gov.uk or by visiting www.east-northamptonshire.gov.uk/elections.

Last week was Neighbourhood Watch Week and prompted by this the Parish Council thought it would be a good idea to ask the residents whether they would like to see this scheme resurected once again. Today the Neighbourhood Watch schemes are more than just crime prevention and are a lot more about the community as a whole. Local Neighbourhood Watch schemes work in a variety of ways that reflect the needs of the local community. This includes: sharing crime prevention advice and information; running awareness campaigns; holding social events and awards for local people and businesses; leading community projects, such as litter picks, a community café, flood defence response, presentations in schools and work with young people and children and community messaging with the police.
If you would like to see a Neighbourhood Watch scheme once again in our village then we would love to hear your comments. You can respond by commenting on this post or by dropping an email to the clerk at clerk@greataddingtonparishcouncil.gov.uk We look forward to hearing your comments.
Sarah Geyton
