August update for Saints Alive

Great Addington Parish Council

Amended date of the September meeting

Due either to members’ work commitments or family responsibilities, it has been necessary to postpone the September meeting until the following week because it will not be quorate. Please accept the Council’s apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause.

New website greataddingtonpc.co.uk

As reported last month, the Council has been working on improving communication and engagement with the community for some time now and part of this process has been to develop a new website called greataddingtonpc.co.uk which will replace the Council’s current website www.parish-council.com/GreatAddington once all the information has been transferred. The new website will help the Council to make its information more easily accessible which is a legal requirement under new openness and transparency legislation but also to ensure it is acting in the best interests of Great Addington residents. If you would like to view agendas, minutes, financial and other documents; learn more about local issues and organisations or post comments, please visit the new website at greataddingtonpc.co.uk

Community Speed Watch 2015

As reported previously, the Council is once again asking for volunteers to be trained to help with Community Speed Watch (CSW). The next training session will be held at Caroline Chisolm School, Wooldale Road, Northampton NN4 6TP on Saturday 12th September 2015 from 9:00 am to 12 noon so please contact the Clerk if you would like to volunteer for CSW.

Volunteers are trained to use hand held speed cameras to monitor the speed of traffic through their village and the information obtained is passed on to the Police. Letters are then sent to the owners of the speeding vehicles, stating that repeat offenders could face prosecution. By being involved in CSW, Great Addington has the benefit of follow up visits and continued support from Northamptonshire Police to ensure that as much as possible is being done to tackle the problem of speeding.

Northamptonshire Police has sent traffic survey reports from before and after Great Addington had use of the speed device and associated equipment and these show a significant reduction in speeding. The percentage of vehicles exceeding the 30 mph speed limit reduced from 84% to 42% while those travelling over 35 mph dropped from 57% to 12%. The Council would like to thank everyone for their support of CSW, especially the volunteers.

Date of the next meeting

The next meeting of the Council will be held in the Memorial Hall, Great Addington on Wednesday 23rd September 2015 at 7:45 pm. and the agenda will be available (on the website and the notice board) 3 clear days before this date. Please note that members of the public have the right to attend any meeting of the Council.
